Bess Malin Laderman was born April 2, 1911 in a small village near Kiev, Ukraine. Bess Malin moved to Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 12 and attended public schools and college in Kansas City. She married Rabbi Manuel Laderman in 1933 and the couple moved to Denver, where Rabbi Laderman became the first rabbi of the Hebrew Educational Alliance in 1932. Abstract
In 1926, Beth David Sisterhood was founded in an effort to create a new Hebrew school and Jewish social center for the West Colfax area of Denver, Colorado. The Beth David Hebrew School and Center met at the home of the Reverend and Mrs. Jacob Gordon at 1490 Julian Street. In November 1928, Beth David Sisterhood formed an alliance with Beth David Brotherhood and the Denver Hebrew Institute, and this group became known as the Hebrew Educational Alliance in 1929. Abstract
The Hebrew Educational Alliance was formed in 1928 through a merging of the Beth David Sisterhood and Denver Hebrew Institute. Four years were spent raising money to build a synagogue, and in 1932, that was accomplished at Meade Street and West Colfax Avenue (3636 W Colfax Ave.). The combined synagogue and hebrew school followed orthodox minhag and halachah. Abstract
Jacob Gorden who was a Schohet, Talmudic scholar, and later a mohel, emigrated to Denver in 1914 from Kolki,Russia to join his uncle, Velvel Heller. Soon Jacob had saved enough to bring his wife Charlotte and daughter Bess over, and the family settled on the Denver's west side. Two more daughters and a son were born in the family. Collection contains papers and notes related to Jacob Gorden from 1920, documents, and digitized photographs from circa 1900 to 1969.

Cantor Jacob Lefkowitz was considered one of the preeminent American-born cantors of the 20th century and composed liturgical music for prayers, psalms, cantatas and recitatives.
